The 38th Annual Butch Hardy Memorial High School Masonry Competition is Friday May 3, 2019 in Goldsboro co-sponsored by Adams, an Oldcastle company and the NCMCA Eastern Carolina Chapter.  The theme for 2019 is “A Day in May to Celebrate Masonry” and features “The Top Trowel” competition, the traditional masonry skills contest for area high school students in Masonry I and II programs in the eastern part of North Carolina.  Added for the first time in 2018, “The Line Burner Contest” returns and is the fastest trowel competition for one contestant from each participating high school.  Event coordinator for Adams/Oldcastle Parrish Hoffman says, “Adams has partnered with the NCMCA Eastern Carolina Chapter beginning last year to sponsor both contests, promote masonry and raise awareness of careers available in the masonry Industry…  The Eastern Carolina Chapter has solicited masonry and construction industry firms to participate as vendors and exhibitors in the Masonry Field Day event.  Members of the NCMCA and Adams have been visiting local high school masonry classes to promote the event and introduce the students to the masonry industry.”  In 2018 Will Light of Southwest Randolph High School had the overall top score in the Top Trowel contest.  Maria Torres of Columbus Career & College Academy won the Line Burner competition.  Maria claimed first place in the women’s division and had the second overall highest score.  Swansboro High School won the “Team Award” for best-combined performance.   Everyone is invited.  The location is Adams, an Oldcastle Company, 2084 NC Hwy 70 W., Goldsboro, NC  27530.  To learn more and to become involved, contact Parrish Hoffman (252) 521-6424 This email address is being protected from spambots.
