In October, NCMCA participated in a “hands-on” demonstration of masonry operations and procedures for North Carolina Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health inspectors and staff at McKimmon Center in Raleigh. NC OSHA officials from across the state had an opportunity to lay brick and participate in a question and answer panel discussion featuring several NCMCA masonry contractor members. In the photo, NCMCA Workforce Development & Training Coordinator Ryan Shaver prepares participants to lay some brick. Sean Loftis of Carolina Masonry Unlimited coordinated the two-day event. Also participating from NCMCA were Bill Marsh, David McQueen, Danks Burton, Kevin O’Shea and Bo Black. Ryan Shaver reports NCMCA made several good contacts during the event, which should result in future collaborations between NC OSHA and NCMCA, and says, “I am sure that they left with a more positive view on the masonry industry. I had multiple folks come up to me and say how much that they enjoyed the training.”  Photo by Sean Loftis
